The K2 Expedition is the ultimate challenge for experienced high-altitude mountaineers. Rising to 8,611 metres in Pakistan’s Karakoram Range, K2 is the world’s second-highest mountain and one of the most demanding and respected peaks in mountaineering.
This expedition takes climbers from Islamabad to the heart of Baltistan and deep into the Karakoram, following the legendary Baltoro Glacier to Concordia and K2 Base Camp. From there, the journey becomes a true high-altitude climbing expedition, involving weeks of acclimatisation, technical climbing, rotations on the mountain and a carefully planned summit attempt.
K2 is not a trekking objective. Reaching the summit requires exceptional physical fitness, extensive experience on high mountains, strong technical climbing ability and the ability to make sound decisions in an extreme environment.
For those with the necessary experience and preparation, standing on the summit of K2 is one of the greatest achievements in world mountaineering.

The K2 Expedition is designed exclusively for highly experienced mountaineers with a strong background in technical climbing and high-altitude expeditions.
K2 is not suitable for beginners or climbers whose experience is limited to trekking or non-technical peaks. Participants should have previous experience on major high-altitude mountains and be comfortable climbing in extreme environments using technical mountaineering equipment.
Climbers should have experience with:
• High-altitude expeditions
• Technical alpine climbing
• Fixed ropes
• Crampons and ice axe techniques
• Glacier travel
• Steep snow and ice climbing
• Rope systems and climbing safety procedures
• Multi-day expeditions in remote environments
• Extreme cold and changing mountain weather
Previous experience on 7,000-metre peaks or other major high-altitude mountains is strongly recommended. Experience on an 8,000-metre peak may also be required depending on the expedition package and the climber’s previous mountaineering record.
Before confirming participation, we may request information regarding your previous climbing experience and mountaineering background.
Participation in a K2 expedition should only be undertaken by climbers who understand the serious risks associated with extreme-altitude mountaineering.

K2 is one of the most difficult and dangerous mountains in the world.
High-altitude mountaineering involves serious risks, including extreme weather, avalanches, falling ice and rock, crevasses, altitude sickness, frostbite, exhaustion, technical climbing hazards and other life-threatening situations.
Participation in this expedition does not guarantee a summit.
The decision to continue climbing, turn back or abandon a summit attempt may be made at any time for safety reasons.
Every climber must understand that reaching the summit is optional, but returning safely is essential.
Our expedition team will always prioritise the safety of climbers, guides, high-altitude workers and support staff.

This itinerary is a general expedition framework and should not be considered a fixed day-by-day schedule.
K2 is an extremely demanding high-altitude expedition, and climbing schedules depend on weather, mountain conditions, acclimatisation, route conditions and the safety of the expedition team.
Additional contingency days are essential. The expedition leadership may change the itinerary at any time when necessary for safety or operational reasons.
The summit is never guaranteed. Safety will always remain the highest priority.

International guests travelling to Pakistan should review the current visa, permit, travel and expedition requirements before making travel arrangements.
Visa requirements, mountaineering permissions, trekking regulations and government policies may change. We strongly recommend checking the latest information directly from the relevant official authorities before travelling to Pakistan or planning a mountaineering expedition.
Mountaineering expeditions in Gilgit-Baltistan are subject to applicable government regulations, permits and expedition requirements.
K2 is an 8,000-metre peak and climbing the mountain requires appropriate expedition authorisation and compliance with the requirements established by the relevant authorities.
Permit procedures, expedition fees, insurance requirements and other regulations may change.
Our team will assist with the expedition planning and administrative arrangements included in your selected expedition package. Participants may be required to provide passports, insurance information, climbing records and other documents required for the expedition application.
We recommend starting the expedition planning process well in advance of the climbing season.
A K2 Expedition is very different from a trekking holiday.
The expedition involves several weeks in a remote mountain environment with limited facilities and changing conditions.
Expect:
• Long periods away from modern facilities
• Expedition-style camping
• Extreme cold
• High winds and changing weather
• Technical climbing
• Fixed ropes
• Snow and ice
• Glacier travel
• Long acclimatisation periods
• Rest days at Base Camp
• Difficult physical conditions
• Possible changes to the climbing schedule
• Extended waiting periods for suitable weather
• A demanding summit push at extreme altitude
The mountain determines the pace of the expedition.
Patience, flexibility and teamwork are essential.
K2 is an extremely serious mountaineering objective.
Despite careful planning, experienced guides, acclimatisation and modern expedition equipment, climbing K2 involves significant risks.
No expedition operator can guarantee:
• A successful summit
• Good weather
• Safe mountain conditions
• Helicopter evacuation
• A fixed climbing schedule
• The absence of injury or illness
Climbers must be prepared to turn back at any point if conditions are unsafe.
The decision to abandon a summit attempt may be made because of weather, altitude, health, exhaustion, technical conditions or other safety concerns.
A summit attempt is successful only if climbers return safely.
The summit is optional. Returning safely is essential.
The Karakoram is one of the world’s most remarkable mountain environments.
We encourage all expedition members to respect the natural environment and minimise their impact throughout the journey.
Participants must bring appropriate personal clothing and equipment suitable for the selected expedition and expected mountain conditions.

Participants should discuss any questions regarding expedition payments and included services with Karakoram Holidays before confirming their booking.
Mobile and internet coverage may be limited or unavailable in remote mountain regions.
Communication services may vary by location and selected expedition.
